Family photo shoot

Information & Styling Guide

Hello!

I am Melanie, family and wedding photographer from Erkelenz . I love my work and am passionate about capturing unique and wonderful moments with your favorite people. I capture your joy, your laughter, your emotions and your family in authentic pictures for eternity.

what you can expect

I love getting to know people and photographing them . My goal is to have a good time and fun with you so that you go home with a good feeling .

Appointments for a photo shoot are usually made once a year, perhaps even at a specific time such as during the vacations, in summer or to welcome a new family member. Some people also book a family photo shoot several times a year.

Before I start photographing , I like to get to know my families during a short phone call. It ‘s important for me to know the names of the family members beforehand and to know what the children like to do.It is also helpful to know how the children behave in front of the camera . Some children love the camera and some want nothing to do with it at all.

With this information I can establish a connection and capture all the interpersonal closeness and love in pictures.

3 tips

For your lifestyle family shoot

1. have fun

The most important thing first, have Fun! Yours Photo shoots should be fun and enjoyable. As a mom, I know thatsometimes it can be stressful to find the right clothes or the right location for your family. But I can hopefully take this burden off your shoulders by advising you on clothing and location.

Sometimes the children are interestedin the camera and sometimes not. The important thing is that I capture you as a family while you are withyour children. keep you in a good mood. The This means you can tickle them or they can stand up and give you a big hug . Your children can playwith leaves , pick them up or you can talk to them about the color of the leaves and their shape.

Take your little ones in your arms in between andhave a cuddle . I am there to record and document this.

2. follow your child everywhere

As soon as we have the important pictures in the can, you know , the ones for grandma and grandpa where everyone has to look at the camera, we can take a deep breath and enjoy a little relax. My favorite pictures are always the ones where we allow the children to move freely and choose the location themselves . to explore. If we let them do a little ,they are more motivated to continue with us and play. This results in beautiful, authentic and natural recordings.

3 Involve your child in activities

Ilove it when families explore the location with their children in a relaxed way. During a shoot with a small family, I saw the dad climbing tree trunks with his son and making sure nothing happened. At a mother-child shoot , the little girl picked flowers for her mom and watched little ladybugs climbing to. Also Here I stayed in the background, but photographed the little girl, who was completely immersed in a colorful and cheerful world.

I can hardly wait to capture such unique moments for you. They are so special and precious, because children grow far too fast!

What should we wear?

Probably the most frequently asked question when we plan a family photo shoot. The advice has changed over time . It is no longera trend for everyone to be photographed in blue jeans and a white T-shirt. I am happy to help you with your choice of clothes, narrow them down or give you a direction that suits the chosen location.

#I

Choose a color palette.

Choose a color palette of 3-4 colors. Start from here and think in tones: blue tones, earth tones, neutral tones, pastel tones, etc. Each family member can create their own style based on the color palette you choose and you will create a harmonious look .

#2

Don't wear the same thing - vote

This doesn’t mean that you should all wear khakis and white T-shirts. Complement your outfits by choosing colors that go together . Personally, I find that if everyone wears the same clothes (e.g. all pants), the people in the picture blend together and the individual characters don’t stand out.

#3

Choose muted colors for your outfits

Muted colors look beautiful in a family picture from. When you choose a color palette, choose one that doesn’t draw attention to itself and only highlightsone person. If you want to choose a particular texture for your clothes, use different ones, such as silk, corduroy, denim or knitwear. This makes the pictures more interesting.

#4

Onion look for variance in the photos

One of my favorite tips. It ‘s not always possible, for example in summer. But I would always recommend the onion look. The onion look creates more visual interest in each picture, it also allows multiple variations and poses for each picture. Or would you like thousands of pictures just in a beautiful dress? Throw on a cardigan or a nice jacket, add a hat and you’ll have lots of different outfits and looks in your pictures.

#5

Match your outfit to the location

Keep your chosen location in mind when choosing your clothes. For example, if we’re shooting in the city, wear something a little more unusual than what you normally wear in the city to stand out from the crowd . If we are photographing in nature, then it can be more casual, such as a maxi dress and sandals.

#6

Choose a natural make-up look for yourself

You should avoid too much make-up. A little color on your lips, eyelids and cheeks will help youlook a little more lively and less tired . Bring some lip gloss or lipstick with you to touch up, because there’s bound to be a smooch or two

#7

Be timeless

Unimaginable for a few fashonistas, but you should be aware of entertaining trends. refrain. Weigh hlt outfits that are not too trendy , so that you always enjoy looking at the pictures later .

#8

Plan in advance

Give yourself enough time to think through all the details of your photo shoot. Plan early so thatyou canfirstly think carefully about your pictures and everything you would like to do during the shoot. 2. don’t stress yourself out just before the shoot and 3. have enough time to touch things up or adapt your look to the location.

#9

Outfit change

If time permits during the shoot, you are also welcome to change outfits.

#10

Store in the same store

It makes it easier to find a suitable outfit for the whole family if you store at the same store or the same brand. It’s especially helpful if several children need to be dressed.

#11

Accessories

Accessories add the finishing touch to your pictures. Everyone can wear them and they suit all ages.

Investment family photos

Your future memories are very important to me and I want you to let go, just be yourselves and enjoy it. Have fun together. Laugh together. I'll take care of the rest.
